The community of fish at Lake Conroe allow for a large variety of fishing styles and techniques by anglers of many interests and skill levels. Some the predominant game species of Lake Conroe include largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, white bass, and hybrid striped bass.

As an extremely popular species and one of the most predominant species of game fish in Lake Conroe, the largemouth bass is a common target among fishermen. The prime month for catching largemouth bass in Lake Conroe is July. During the morning and evening, largemouth bass can be caught in the shallow waters near the shoreline. These are the main feeding times for largemouth bass, so fishermen should expect frequent bites on a good day. Drop offs and gaps in weed beds are excellent locations for catching largemouth bass. These habitats can be found throughout Lake Conroe, but there is a large density of them in the northern waters of the lake.Fishermen have reported great success when using shad imitation lures while targeting largemouth bass. Soft plastics, tube jigs, and spinnerbaits are also effective options.

Channel catfish can also be found in large abundance at Lake Conroe. As with most lakes, the best way to target catfish is by casting bottom rigs into fishing holes in the deeper waters of the lake. There is a deep fishing hole near Bird Island that has proven to be a very successful spot for targeting catfish. Bottom rigs equipped to a heavy rod with a line of 15 to 20 pounds of test is the best setup available. Some of the best baits for catfish include anchovies, stink baits, cut baits, and chicken livers. The water can also be chummed to attract catfish to a certain location.

Anglers who desire a more relaxing fishing experience can target the excellent abundance of panfish. Bluegill can be found in high numbers, while crappie have an average abundance. Regardless of which species is targeted, the shallow waters near the shoreline and piers are great places to target. These species tend to reside near the standing timber and weed beds. Light tackle and fly rods can both be used to successfully capture these panfish. Both fish can put a feisty fight, so they are fun targets that are not hard to find.

Lake Conroe offers several facilities and accommodations that will ensure that a day on the water is successful. This includes boat landings, piers, fueling stations, marinas, lodging, tackle shops, restaurants, and grocery stores.

Lake Conroe covers a total area of 33 miles. At its maximum length, Conroe is 21 miles. This lake is 75 feet at its deepest point. It has an average depth of 21 feet. These measurements help create the perfect location for a healthy and expandable environment.
