Located in southern Oklahoma in Murray county, Lake of the Arbuckles is a premier fishing reservoir known for its large populations of bass and other species of popular game fish. Lake of the Arbuckles is formed by the Arbuckle Dam, which regulates the flow of water from Rock Creek into Lake of the Arbuckles. Fishermen will find that the opportunities presented by Lake of the Arbuckles is sufficient for most fishermen.

Anglers of Lake of the Arbuckles will notice that this body of water holds a large and various selection of freshwater fish that are commonly found throughout warm bodies of water. Some of these game species include largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, bluegill, white bass, and smallmouth bass. This communities offer excitement and adventure to fishermen of many different styles and preferences. As one of the most popular species of fresh bodies of water across the entire world, the largemouth bass is commonly targeted by fishermen of Lake of the Arbuckles. Anglers who decide to target this species should cast their lines in the areas directly in front of the numerous rivers and creeks that feed into Lake of the Arbuckles. During the early morning, especially during the spawning season, fishermen should target the shallow waters near the shoreline. These areas are populated by aquatic vegetation that largemouth bass hide in while feeding. For all locations, light tackle such as spinners, jigs, crankbaits, and buzz baits are the best options available. There is a 14-pounder that currently resides in Lake of the Arbuckles, so it is wise to equip a rod with a line of a 10 to 15 pound test. There is also plenty of opportunities for fishermen who enjoy catfishing. Both blue catfish and channel catfish can be found throughout Lake of the Arbuckles in average abundance. Anglers should cast a line in the deepest areas of the lake. The ideal setup for catfishing is a medium weight rod with a line of 15 to 20 pounds of test that is equipped with a bottom rig. Heavier line is also a reasonable option due to the fact that as blue catfish has weighed in at a massive 50 pounds. Fishermen should attach baits such as stink baits, chicken livers, minnows, or cheese to their hooks. Catfish will eat just about anything, but baits that emit a strong odor are usually the most effective. There are also opportunities available for those fishermen who enjoy catching small fighters such as bluegill. The bluegill can be caught using a light tackle setup or a fly rod.

As it is with many bodies of water, there are several facilities available that help make trips convenient to travelers and boat users. These include piers, boat landings, fueling stations, grocery stores, tackle shops, and lodging.
The Lake
Lake of the Arbuckles is a small body of water with enormous opportunities. This artificial lake has a total area of 2,350 acres. It has a shoreline that measures out to 36 miles. This small and healthy lake allows for a dense community of game species that make for a high quality fishing experience for all anglers that visit.
