Fishing
Since Thousand Islands Lake has a vast number of land masses jutting out of its surface, there is a surplus of habitats that make this the ideal location for fishing. Thousand Islands Lake supports a huge number of fish populations that allow for excellent fishing experiences. Some of the main game species in Thousand Islands Lake includes lake trout, king salmon, walleye, muskie, northern pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and numerous panfish such as sunfish and bluegill. These large gamefish are the pride and joy of Thousand Islands Lake and ensure that every visit is adventurous.

A local favorite of Thousand Islands is the muskie. This species can grow very large and puts up an incredible fight. The state record for the muskie was captured in Thousand Islands at 69 pounds. For those in search of the famous muskie, Cape Vincent is an ideal location to target. Fishermen should use trolling rigs equipped with large spoons and travel at a speed of 2 to 6 miles per hour. Once a muskie is hooked, anglers should be ready to fight in order to wear the fish down; even the lightest muskies can easily break a fishing line if they are pulled in while they are at their strongest. The walleye is another popular target among Thousand Islands fishermen. This species often ranges from 5 to 10 pounds in weight and can put up a solid fight if it is aggressive.

During the Spring and early Summer, the walleye can be found in the weed beds and around shoals. Light tackle such as crankbaits and jigs can be used with line of 10 to 15 pound test. During the late Summer and Fall, the best location to catch walleye is at the Moses Saunders Power Dam. Walleye tend to gather in this area in high numbers, so this is usually an excellent location to target. King salmon is a species that is targeted by many of the most seasoned fishermen of Thousand Islands. The best method to capture this fish is by trolling. Due to the species' usually nature, the ideal trolling speed is a slow 2 to 4 miles per hour. Herring and anchovies are usually the most successful baits for king salmon fishing. As with other large game fish, this species cannot be captured immediately; it must be fought to the point of exhaustion or else it will break the fishing line.

While largemouth bass can be caught in Thousand Islands, smallmouth bass dominate the region. This species can be caught along the shoals in the dense growth of vegetation. The islands Carleton and Round are among the best locations for catching bass. For those that wish to enjoy a simple day on the water, the numerous panfish can be caught from the shore or in a boat by using light tackle or fly rods.
