Fishing
Due to Lake Oroville's large range of depth and space, many different species are able to thrive. These healthy fish populations allow for serious fishing among both casual and serious fishermen. The species of fish in Lake Oroville are among the most popular in California, the West Coast, and the entire United States. These species include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, spotted bass, crappie, channel catfish, rainbow trout, brown trout, and coho salmon. Numerous smaller species like bluegil can also be found. Lake Oroville is most known for its dense populations of largemouth bass. Due to the large population, this species can be caught during all 12 months of the year. During the Winter, largemouth reside in water that is about 20 to 40 feet in depth. Fishermen will require a boat to reach these locations. Once at the proper depth, light tackle such as spinners, jigs, or crankbaits should be used. During the warmer months between mid-Spring and mid-Fall, largemouth bass return to the shore. Fishermen should fish from the shoreline or use a boat to fish in hard to reach coves. Largemouth bass can often be found in sand beds near aquatic plants such as hydrilla. The same light tackle can be used in the shallow water as is used in the deeper waters. Rainbow trout is another local favorite at Lake Oroville. Due to the large amount of cold water flowing into the reservoir, the trout are readily found near the water in-take areas. Once at these areas, anglers should resort to using a light tackle such as a spinner or a fly rod. These rainbow trout can put up a strong fight, so they are considered a fun challenge to many fly fishermen. Due to the depth of Lake Oroville, the channel catfish also has high populations. This is an exciting fish to catch and is just as tasty. For best results, fishermen should find a deep channel or hole and cast a medium-test line equipped with a bottom rig and stink bait. Fishermen can experiment with different kinds of baits, because the catfish is known to eat just about anything that has a strong scent. Smaller species of fish can be caught from the shore using light tackle. These are excellent for families and casual fishermen.
Facilities
Lake Oroville has numerous facilities at or near the water that make trips easy to plan and free of stress. This includes marinas, fueling stations, piers, boat landings, tackle shops, grocery stores, and sleeping accommodations. Every basic necessity can be purchased, so forgetting something at home is not a problem.
The Lake
Lake Oroville is a huge lake and one of the deepest on the West Coast. At its deepest point, Oroville is 690 feet deep, but this can fluctuate by over 100 feet at certain times. It has an area of 25 miles and is 10 feet long. This allows for very large fish populations.

Anglers will find that Lake Oroville is an excellent location for high quality fishing.
